Focus and Scope

IJIL steadfastly maintains Islamic legal studies as the cornerstone of its academic inquiry. The journal encompasses a broad spectrum of themes within this field, including Islamic Family Law, Islamic Law and Society, Islamic Law and Gender, Islamic Jurisprudence, and Islamic Legal Theory.

Publication Ethics Statement

IJIL is a peer-reviewed journal published twice a year by the Department of Islamic Personal Law, Postgraduate Program, Universitas Islam Negeri Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember, Indonesia. It is available online as an open-access resource and also in print. This statement clarifies the ethical behaviour of all parties involved in the act of publishing articles in this journal, including authors, editors-in-chief, the Editorial Board, reviewers, and publishers.

Editor Duties

  • IJIL editors are responsible for deciding which articles submitted to the journal should be published. Editorial board policies and any applicable legal restrictions on libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism may guide the editors. The editors may consult with other editors or reviewers in making decisions.
  • However, the editors double-check each article before publication. The first step is to check for plagiarism using the offline database that the Journal House Research Centre has created, and the second is to do so using as many online databases as you can.
  • An editor evaluates a manuscript based on its intellectual content without regard to the author's race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy.
  • Editors and any editorial staff should not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisors, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Reviewer Duties

  • Reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions.
  • Reviewers should conduct their evaluations objectively and base them on clear arguments.
  • Any elected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that immediate review is not possible should notify the editor and request permission from the review process.
  • Any manuscript accepted for review should be treated as a confidential document. Except with the editor's permission, you must not show or discuss it with anyone else.
  • Reviewers should draw attention to relevant published works that the authors have not cited. An appropriate citation should accompany any statement that reports a previously observed, derived, or argued point. A reviewer should also bring to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and other published papers of which they are personally aware.
  • Two reviewers independently review each manuscript submitted to IJIL. The decision to publish, amend, or reject is based on their report or recommendation.
  • Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review should be kept confidential and not used for personal gain.

Author Duties

  • The authors report original research.
  • The data presented in the paper should be accurately represented.
  • Authors should ensure that they have written entirely original work and, if they have used the work and/or words of others, that the work has been appropriately cited or quoted.
  • Authors are responsible for submitting only manuscripts that are free from plagiarism and academic malpractice.
  • Authors should cite references to the works cited.
  • Authors must write the manuscript based on the applicable academic writing rules.
  • An author should not publish a manuscript describing essentially the same research in more than one journal. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously is unethical and unacceptable publishing behaviour.

Publisher Duties

  • IJIL is responsible for publishing articles after going through the editing, peer review, and layout processes.
  • IJIL is responsible for the academic freedom of editors and reviewers.
  • IJIL is responsible for privacy, intellectual property, copyright, and editorial freedom.

Plagiarism Screening

Basically, the author's job is to only submit manuscripts that are free from plagiarism and academic malpractice. However, the editors double-check each article before publication. The IJIL journal team's offline database and as many online databases as possible are the first two places to look for plagiarism. Additionally, the plagiarism checking process involves the use of Turnitin, QuillBot Premium, Grammarly Premium and AI Content Defectors.

Publiaction Frequency

IJIL is published twice a year, in June and December. Published articles are the best articles that have gone through rigorous selection

Peer Review Process

The editor-in-chief will assign the manuscript to the managing editor for further handling. The managing editor will ask at least two scientists to review the manuscript. All manuscripts are subject to double-blind peer review, with both the identity of the reviewers and authors kept confidential from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process to meet standards of academic excellence. All papers are fully peer-reviewed. We only publish articles that have undergone thorough review and approval by highly qualified researchers with subject-matter expertise (at least two reviewers per article). IJIL maintains double-blind-peer review standards while improving the efficiency of the process.
