Editorial Workflow
Editorial Workflow:
The editorial workflow of ARKHAS: Journal of Arabic Language Teaching is managed through the Open Journal Systems (OJS), ensuring a structured and transparent process for manuscript handling. The editorial team holds the authority to reject manuscripts that do not align with the journal's focus, lack sufficient quality, or present incorrect results. To maintain objectivity, editors are prohibited from serving as external reviewers for manuscripts they oversee. This policy upholds a high-quality, fair, and unbiased peer-review process, requiring recommendations from at least two external reviewers and the responsible editor for a manuscript's acceptance.
Given the volume of submissions exceeding publication capacity, editors may reject manuscripts without external review if they fail to meet the journal's minimum qualifications. All submissions must adhere to the journal's focus, scope, and author guidelines. To be considered for publication in ARKHAS, manuscripts should meet the following criteria:
1. Originality of work.
2. Alignment between methodology and research topics.
3. Novelty, excluding meeting report abstracts and preprints on community servers.
4. Robust analysis.
5. Strong evidence supporting conclusions
6. Significance to specialists in the field.
7. Potential interest to researchers in related disciplines.
Manuscripts should contribute to advancing understanding in the field and justify their publication in ARKHAS.
Upon submission, an editor evaluates the manuscript's suitability concerning the journal's focus and scope. Subsequently, a similarity check is conducted using plagiarism detection tools (Turnitin). Manuscripts outside the journal's scope or containing plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, are rejected.
Editors review new submissions within 7–21 working days, subject to workload. Manuscripts may be returned to authors before peer review if deemed out of scope, plagiarized, exceeding word limits, or inadequately prepared.
If a manuscript is potentially suitable, it undergoes a double-blind peer-review process, ensuring anonymity for both reviewers and authors. Two experts review the manuscript, typically within 1–4 months, and provide recommendations:
1. Accept Submission.
2. Revisions Required.
3. Resubmit for Review.
4. Resubmit Elsewhere.
5. Decline Submission
Authors receive the review outcome via email and their journal account. If revisions are needed, authors must resubmit the revised manuscript, addressing reviewers' suggestions. To expedite publication, authors are allotted a maximum of six weeks for revisions, with reminders sent every two weeks. Manuscripts not revised within this timeframe may be removed from the system.
Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, where grammar and clarity are enhanced. The copyeditor collaborates with the author to ensure compliance with the journal's style and bibliography requirements. Subsequently, the layout editor formats the manuscript into a "galley" file (PDF).
Before publication, the proofreader reviews the galley file for errors, working with the author to correct typographical and formatting issues. The final manuscript is then scheduled for publication, assigned a DOI, and updated on the journal's website with appropriate metadata.
Decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection are based on reviewers' recommendations. In certain cases, the editor may seek additional reviews before making a final decision. The Editor-in-Chief determines the publication schedule, considering acceptance dates, authors' geographical distribution, and thematic relevance. The typical timeline from submission to publication ranges from 3 months to 1 year, averaging 3 months.
ARKHAS utilizes Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3.0.1.0, an open-source journal management and publishing platform developed by the Public Knowledge Project.
