Artificial Intelligence Policy

Purpose and Scope

MANAGIERE: Journal of Islamic Educational Management, published by the Postgraduate Program of Universitas Islam Negeri Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember, recognises the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI tools, including large language models (LLMs), in scholarly research and academic writing. This policy aims to ensure that the use of AI in the publication process is conducted responsibly, transparently, and ethically, in accordance with the principles of research integrity, academic accountability, and publication ethics as required by Scopus, DOAJ, and COPE.

Principles of Responsible AI Use

MANAGIERE adopts the following core principles in regulating the use of AI technologies:

  1. Human Accountability
Authors, reviewers, and editors remain fully responsible for all scholarly content. AI tools cannot assume responsibility, accountability, or authorship.
  2. Transparency
Any use of AI tools in manuscript preparation must be clearly and transparently disclosed.
  3. Integrity and Originality
AI tools must not compromise the originality, validity, or ethical standards of scholarly work.
  4. Non-Authorship of AI
AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors under any circumstances.

Permitted Uses of Artificial Intelligence

Authors may use AI tools only as supportive instruments, including but not limited to:

  1. Language editing and proofreading, such as improving grammar, clarity, and academic style.
  2. Reference organisation and citation formatting using AI-assisted reference management software.
  3. Plagiarism screening to ensure originality prior to submission.
  4. Data analysis assistance, including data organisation, statistical support, or visualisation, provided that interpretation remains the responsibility of the authors.

These uses must not alter the intellectual substance or scholarly arguments of the manuscript.

Prohibited Uses of Artificial Intelligence

  1. Generation of core scholarly content, including research questions, theoretical frameworks, methodologies, results, discussions, or conclusions.
  2. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data, research findings, or citations.
  3. Automated authorship or ghostwriting, where AI replaces substantive human intellectual contribution.
  4. Undisclosed use of AI, particularly where AI-generated text materially affects the manuscript.

Any violation of these prohibitions constitutes a breach of publication ethics.

Disclosure Requirements

  1. Clearly disclose the use of AI tools in the Acknowledgements section or in a dedicated AI Disclosure Statement.
  2. Specify the name, version (if applicable), and purpose of the AI tool used (e.g., language editing, data analysis).
  3. Confirm that AI tools were not used to generate the core intellectual content of the manuscript.

Failure to disclose AI use may result in rejection or post-publication corrective action.

Ethical and Legal Considerations

  1. Academic integrity and ethical research conduct
  2. Copyright and intellectual property regulations
  3. Data protection and confidentiality standards

Any AI-assisted content that involves plagiarism, copyright infringement, or ethical misconduct will be handled in accordance with MANAGIERE’s Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.

Editorial and Peer Review Policy

All manuscripts submitted to MANAGIERE are subject to the same rigorous editorial screening and peer-review process. Editors and reviewers may assess the appropriateness and transparency of AI use as part of the evaluation of research integrity and originality. The use of AI tools does not influence editorial decisions and does not reduce the standards applied in the peer-review process.

Compliance and Sanctions

  1. Manuscript rejection
  2. Request for revision or clarification
  3. Retraction or correction of published articles
  4. Notification to authors’ institutions in cases of serious ethical violations

Policy Review and Updates

This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated to align with developments in AI technologies, evolving ethical standards, and updated guidelines from Scopus, DOAJ, and COPE.
